A good player in the WHL with the Regina Pats who was named to the first All-Star team of the WHL East in 1985, Miner was drafted to the National Hockey League 220th overall in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. Miner joined the Nova Scotia Oilers in 1985, being given the chance to play in the playoffs. He responded well with 2 goals and as many assists in 3 games. The next season, he was full-time professional. In a total of 1062 career games, all leagues together, he scored 233 goals and had 589 assists for 822 points. He retired in 2008.
