A good player in the WHL with the Regina Pats who was named to the first All-Star team of the WHL East in 1985, Miner was drafted to the National Hockey League 220th overall in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers. Miner joined the Nova Scotia Oilers in 1985, being given the chance to play in the playoffs. He responded well with 2 goals and as many assists in 3 games. The next season, he was full-time professional. In a total of 1062 career games, all leagues together, he scored 233 goals and had 589 assists for 822 points. He retired in 2008.

Miner joined the Nova Scotia Oilers in 1985, being given the chance to play in the playoffs. He responded well with 2 goals and as many assists in 3 games. The next season, he was full-time professional. Miner had to wait until 1987-88 to earn his chance to play in the NHL. He was given 14 games, during which he scored twice and collected 3 assists. This was the first and last time he would play in the NHL. Next season, the Oilers dealt him to the Los Angeles Kings for Craig Redmond. He played 14 games over two seasons with the New Haven Nighthawks, but from 1988, Miner was primarily, and from 1990 exclusively, playing in Europe. In a total of 1062 career games, all leagues together, he scored 233 goals and had 589 assists for 822 points. He retired in 2008.
