| - 9-LOM was created on Kuat and was the property of a wealthy royal and her husband. However, the programming glitches which plagued other LOM protocol droids slowly began to make themselves apparent in his logic circuits. Over time, 9-LOM was compelled to disobey his owners' directives, feeling that he was above the level of taking orders. 9-LOM eventually left his owners, and, being in close proximity of the Kuat Drive Yards, stole an H-60 Tempest Bomber and an astromech unit, R3-T7. 9-LOM struck out on his own, working as an information broker. 9-LOM was contacted by an underworld boss, who offered to adapt him to work for him as a mercenary on retainer. At this point, 9-LOM had found his objective: to work as a bodyguard and armed courier. 9-LOM was outfitted with upgrades to his chassis and was outfitted with a potent armament. After extensive modifications to himself and his ship, 9-LOM went into business, offering his services to whomever requested it; this was most commonly the Republic and later to the Rebel Alliance. 9-LOM commonly found himself escorting important personnel, acquiring and ferrying data, or otherwise transporting sensitive or high-risk material. Over time, 9-LOM continued to evolve well beyond his normal programming, much like 4-LOM had. A lack of scheduled memory-wipes allowed him to develop various idiosyncratic personality quirks, such as a deadpan sense of humor. 9-LOM constantly strove to be the best at whatever he attempted; for him, failure was not an option. He constantly sought to surpass his former standing as a subservient piece of mechanical property, and always sought to "prove" his worth as an individual. However, 9-LOM did not evolve the "intuition" which his bounty-hunting counterpart seemed to develop. Just before the Battle of Hoth, 9-LOM was asked to ferry a member of the Rebel Alliance to a dropoff point, from which the agent would be taken to Hoth Base. On his way to the drop point, 9-LOM was ambushed by a group of TIE fighters, and was forced to land on the planet Barkhesh, a backwater planet on the Rim. 9-LOM managed to eliminate two of the TIEs before crashing his B-wing and its Rebel occupant on the planet, taking out an third TIE in the process. 9-LOM shot down the final TIE using his disruptor rifle. 9-LOM and the agent were rescued by members of Rogue Squadron, who had been on an escort mission on the other side of the planet. Upon seeing 9-LOM's handiwork, the Rebel agent attempted to recruit him for work in the Rebel Alliance, noting how well he had handled the TIEs. 9-LOM accepted and became a member of the Alliance Special Operations. Prior to the Battle of Hoth, 9-LOM worked in the Alliance's SpecOps, where he completed many successful operations with the team. 9-LOM was transferred to Hoth, along with R3-T7 and his Tempest Bomber, and worked as a shuttle pilot during the evacuation, but did not actually fight in the planetside Battle of Hoth. Following the Battle of Hoth, 9-LOM displayed an aptitude to starfighter piloting and combat and was transferred to Corsair Squadron as Corsair Four. He served with distinction, was accepted into Rogue Squadron for a brief period, but has since transferred back to Corsair Squadron as Corsair Leader following the Battle of Endor. 9-LOM's personality was mainly that of an analytical machine. His primary strength was his being a machine, while his biggest weakness was the fear that he may one day have been captured and reprogrammed to be the protocol droid he once was. Modifications to 9-LOM included enhanced servomotors, allowing him more flexibility in his joints than standard protocol droids, as well as enhanced optical sensors and reflexes. Other modifications included a concealed two-shot blaster hidden in his right forearm, and a pair of knives concealed in his thighs, as well as magnetic pads on the bottoms of his feet, a magnet in his right palm, and a micro-repulsor in his left palm. Modifications to his disruptor rifle included an extendable stock, high-capacity powerpack, and a custom-built stunner on the underside mounting rail of the rifle, so that 9-LOM did not always have to turn his targets into smoking piles of ash.
