Spending the first sixteen years of his life as a part of a Sith pack, Hiljo eventually gained entrance to the prestigious Sith Academy on Korriban. Once there, the Sith warrior trained for a further nine years before being taken as an apprentice, although this relationship did not last long. Betraying his Master, who was attempting to break the Rule of One, to the Sith Council, Hiljo was taken as the apprentice of the Dark Lord of the Decreton Empire – Darth Wyyrlok – and continued his apprentiship until his eventual promotion to the rank of Sith Lord. Hiljo would later become notable as the first Sith in over 150 years to combat a Jedi of the Jedi Autocracy; and would continue to bare an intense rivalry with the Jedi Knight. A strong proponent of military expansion through the Sith expansionary campaign, Hiljo was thrust into military service as Commander of the Home Fleet upon the outbreak of the Zao tenj War, but was initially defeated by the invaders during the Battle of the abyss. Hiljo survived the battle, and continued to lead the Sith defense of the galaxy, eventually being forced to serve alongside his Jedi rival, Jehn Rhin, during the Battle of Hardpoint One.
