| - The Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (Russian: Союз Советских Социалистических Республик, Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik), also known as the Soviet Union (Советский Союз, Sovetskiy Soyuz), and abbreviated as the U.S.S.R. (С.С.С.Р., S.S.S.R.); is a nation which stretches across northern Eurasia. The Soviet Union was established in 1922, becoming the first communist state to exist. Following World War II, the USSR emerged as one of the dominant global powers. In October 1957, the Soviet Union became the first nation to launch a satellite, followed by the first living being in 1958, and the first man in 1961. The Soviets took early focus on Venus, and were the first to set foot on the planet in 1985. Today, the Soviets have several settlements across the planet, with some of these gaining independence as Cukursia and New Kamchatka.
