If the tactic is applied with a Sniper, make sure to use weapons in which the projectiles travel straight such as the Triple Shot. Ice and Freeze type weapons are also highly recommended to keep the stickmen at bay. If the glitch seems difficult to do, turning off all of the characters' Auto move will suffice, followed by baiting the stickmen a few at a time to prevent a heavy rain of fire at your characters.
