| - The Field of Deadly Poppies is a flowery meadow in L. Frank Baum's fictional world 'The Land of Oz' from the Oz books. In Beyond the Kingdoms, Alex, Conner, Mother Goose, Lester, Goldilocks, Jack and Red travel into the story and the Land of Oz in persuit of the Masked Man. They follow the Yellow Brick Road to get to Winkie Country, but are attacked by Kalidahs on the way and escape into the meadow. Red is initially charmed by the pretty flowers, even picking one to put in her hair, but then makes a gruesome discovery: the ground beneath the flowers is littered with skeletons. The perfume of the meadows' scarlet flowers is known to bring on an intoxicating, eternal sleep. The Tin Woodman, who has lead Alex, Conner and the others there, realizes his mistake as his travel companions start losing consciousness from the poisonous fumes. He starts dragging them out of the meadow by himself, but then comes upon the Field Mice Queen, who helps him as a thank-you for saving her life. The friends all survive the ordeal, but were unconscious for two days. After waking up, they take up their persuit of the Masked Man again.
