Yakushev made himself famous by being one of the stars of the Soviet National Team during the 1972 Summit Series, leading the Soviets with 7 goals and 4 assists. A rough and physical player, Yakushev was somewhat of an equivalent of Phil Esposito, which was very uncommon on the Soviet side.
