| - Al-Hassan was a political renegade in his home country of Yemen, but he turned his fortunes around in the mid-eighties when his forces seized control of the government in the capital city Sana'a. The new Yemeni Liberation Authority (YLA) murdered the ruling family and allowed for Al-Hassan to take control in the city's Taherir Palace. As a leader, Al-Hassan crushed all possible resistance to his authority by deterring rebellion and capturing anyone deemed a threat to his rule for interrogation and torture. His attack dog and right-hand man, Walid Abdul Khorsh, represented the fear that Al-Hassan installed in the country, and protection from the Dhar Judeem warriors kept him safe from assassins. The YLA often sold weapons on the black market to terrorists who arranged attacks in the Middle East, and Al-Hassan arranged to obtain weapons from an unknown NATO nation that included Scud missiles. This information prompted agents from Israel's Mossad to investigate Al-Hassan's dealings. Ehud Ben Zohar was the agent that infiltrated the city of Sana'a before learning of a deal between Al-Hassan and Yushchenko of the Chechen Democratic Partizans to buy the Omega Strain. Agency operatives cooperated with Mossad on the mission, but Zohar manipulated them into helping with an assassination of Al-Hassan. Authorities recovered the YLA's weapons contracts, evaded the Dhar Judeem, and continued their investigation elsewhere. The Yemeni government issued a statement following the assassination to say that no coup had occured in the country.
