Kartarpur (meaning: The City of God) 30.92°55′N 72.78°47′E / 30.92°N 72.78°E (Gurmukhi: ਕਰਤਾਰਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ) was established by Guru Nanak in 1522. The town is located in Pakistan at a distance of about 3 kms from the Indo-Pakistan border on the west bank of river Ravi.. It is very close to Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur with the River Ravi separating the two locations. A bridge which joined the two Gurdwaras was destroyed during the 1965 Indo-Pak war. The shrine or Samadh of Guru Nanak stands out as there is no other habitation around. There is a nearby railway connection which is named ‘Darbar Sahib Kartarpur’ on the Lahore-Chak Amru line. It lies in the tehsil Shakkar Garh district Narowal of West Punjab, about 60Km from Lahore.
