A Biome Essence is a token that you can craft with a Biome Radar to help you find the location of a desired biome. Essences can be found in loot chests in places such as dungeons and mineshafts. Once crafted together, the Radar is permanently fixed to locate the biome indicated by the Essence. Right click the Radar while in your hotbar to get a reading. After a few seconds, the Radar will behave like a compass to show you which direction to find the biome.

It doesn't always lead you to the nearest biome, so you might have to take a bit of a journey to find it. Also, there are special biomes with different dirt, trees, animals and much more! File:Biome Essence.png The update 1.8.9 of Biomes o Plenty changed the texture of the Biome essence, and now has Biome Essence Ore for it to mine. With this new ore it chooses a random biome when you mine it and if you get a few then you can choose what biome you would like to use for your Radar.
