- The Spinner is a device similar to the Bomb Slot, first introduced in Metroid Prime and featured in the rest of the Prime Trilogy. To use a Spinner, Samus must use the Boost Ball to cause the mechanism in the Spinner to begin rotating. This spinning mechanism is linked to a nearby object, and repeatedly using the Boost Ball will have some effect on the linked object. When the object has been fully moved or activated, Samus will automatically be ejected from the Spinner. If Samus stops using the Boost Ball before the object has been activated, it will slowly return to its initial position or state. A Morph Ball Bomb can be used to exit prematurely.

If multiple Spinners are repairing a portal, it can be very hard to damage the portal, as they will quickly restore all of its health. Should the portal be destroyed with a nearby Spinner, it will explode and poison nearby players. If the spinner was lured far enough, then it will not explode. The poison does negligible damage regardless.

They are used extensively by the police to survey the population, and it's clear that despite restrictions, wealthy people can acquire spinner licenses. The spinner was designed by Syd Mead.

- In the first book, Vikus thought that the spinners would be in good terms with the humans, because of a trade agreement. However, the spinners held him, Solovet, Euripedes, Ajax, Mareth, Boots, Temp, Tick, Gregor, Henry, Luxa, Ares, and Aurora prisoner. Luxa and Aurora performed the Coiler, a move which destroyed the spinner's web, and the group was able to escape. They were followed by Treflex and Gox, who joined in the quest after the gnawers attacked the spinners. After joining the group, Treflex dies of his wounds. After rescuing Gregor's father, Henry betrayed the group's location to the gnawers, and Gox was killed by King Gorger. Gregor distracts the Gnawers by leaping into a pit. Gorger, Henry, and some rats plummeted to their deaths, but Gregor was rescued by Ares.
- The Spinner can be used as a weapon as well, as demonstrated with the Arbiter's Grounds Boss, Stallord. To defeat this boss, the player needs to press the "B" button ("A" in the Nintendo GameCube version) right before Link touches Stallord's spine, making Link jump and hit Stallord. Doing this enough times will result in the spine being broken off. When it comes to average enemies, though, the spinner is ususlly not a good method of killing them. When Link is oon quicksand it is neccesary, but in most circumstances, it is not. The Spinner also does minimum damage to said enemy, so it usually takes a few hits to kill them this way.

It is able to attack by spinning his two twin blades around its body at high speeds, as well as having the ability to generate an electric field, making it temporarily invulnerable. A purple version also exists, although lacks the electrical weapon. Spinners can also be found in the video games Sonic Adventure, Sonic Advance 2 and 3, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations.
