Lex Luthor was born in Suicide Slum in Metropolis, where he was raised by his parents, Lionel and Lillian. His sister Lena was born when Lex was five, and the two kept each other sane in the not so quiet Luthor household. At the age of eleven, after his brother Julian was born, Lex lost both his mother and brother due to birth complications. This put a heavy strain on Lex's already fragile young mind, thanks in part to his father's egomaniacal upbringing. Lena left after an argument with Lionel, leaving Lex alone with their overbearing father.

| - Lex Luthor was born in Suicide Slum in Metropolis, where he was raised by his parents, Lionel and Lillian.
Realizing it wasn't going to get any better, Lex left and soon found himself on a downward spiral of drugs, alcohol and late Metropolis nights. In Gotham, Lex ran across Bruce Wayne, who himself was also on a bad road to nowhere. The two soon fell in with John Corben, and got in a dangerous situation with the League of Assassins.
Lex, Bruce and John found themselves in over their heads and after barely escaping from the League of Assassins, agreed to never see each other again.
As Lionel continued to enroll Lex into more and more prep schools, his son continued to rebel. Finally, Lionel sent Lex to Smallville, Kansas, where he would cross paths with Clark Kent. After bonding with Clark, Lex decided that the time was now to step up and returned to Metropolis, where he accepted a job as Executive VP of LuthorCorp.
Lex found himself reunited with John Corben, who pleaded with Lex to get him a job at LexCorp on the grounds that his Metallo program could change the world. Lex agreed and got John the job, overseeing the project.
Struggling with the darkness inside of him, Lex finally made the choice that would shape his entire life and murdered his father on the top floor of LuthorCorp. After taking his father out of the picture, Lex took over the company and renamed it LexCorp.
When Superman arrived in Metropolis, Lex was instantly fascinated and irritated by him at the same time. Little did he know that when he and Clark reconnected, he was shaking hands with the very man he had just sworn to destroy. At the LexCorp charity beneift, Lex hired a group of terroists to crash the party in hopes of gauging Superman's powers. Lex murdered the terrorist leader later that night to erase any ties to him.
