(TOS: "Court Martial") His secondary duties included serving as an orientation and training officer for officers newly assigned to the ship. (TOS trilogy: Errand of Vengeance) Finney had been one of James T. Kirk's instructors at the Academy and even named his daughter after the young midshipman. However, that friendship ended after a cadet cruise on the USS Republic when Finney left a critical circuit open that could have destroyed the vessel. Kirk logged the incident and Finney was reprimanded and moved to the bottom of the promotion list. After his plot against Kirk failed, Finney was sentenced to 20 years in a rehabilitation colony. (Orion Press: "A Campaign of Whispers") He had a descendant, Florence Finney, that served as a lieutenant in the Hydran Royal Intelligence Agency as a records officer onboard the HMS Prometheus. (RIS Bouteina: "Hystelic Kingdom") His descendant later became an Hydran ambassador. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Highly Illogical")
