He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and educated in California; he was a library researcher who "wrote essays, non-fiction articles, and children's literature." He died at the young age of 33, "as a result...of having scarlet fever in his childhood." Pattrick's essay on "Oz Geography" was printed serially in four issues of The Baum Bugle in 1959 and 1960. Two of his pieces on Sherlock Holmes, "Ponderings of a Politician" and "A Sherlockian Zoo" (the latter co-written with Adelaide Ewing) are found in the 1965 collection West by One and by One, edited by Poul Anderson. Another, "The Case of the Superfluous Landlady," appeared in the Baker Street Journal in October 1953.
