  • Naval combat in space has changed many times throughout humanity's history. In the latter part of the Human-Covenant War, the United Nations Space Command was forced to break from its original naval fleet doctrine and instead group its remaining starships (mostly frigates and destroyers) into small fleets. This was performed in order to more effectively combat Covenant warships. After the victory in the war, the UNSC continued to construct smaller vessels over larger ones (with the notable exception of the Sierra-class battleship) given the success of small squadrons.
