  • Autorka: Lisa Smedman Rok wydania: styczeń 1997 ISBN: 0-451-45377-8 ISBN 0451453778 Ilość stron: 288 Shadowrun #23 Kontrola wszystkich informacji w uniwersum Shadowruna. Gigantyczna korporacja niechcący wzywa gwałtownego ducha z innego wymiaru, jedynie młoda dziewczyna może powstrzymać nadchodzącą zagładę. Life on the streets of 21st-centruy Seattle can be tough, especially for a young orc like Pita. And it get a lot tougher when she witnesses a corporate mage murdered by the violent spirit he just conjured from another dimension. Now she's in a heap of trouble with the dead mage's employer, an organization with somthing to hide. Fortunately, KKRU reporter Carla Harris is in a position to help. Carla needs a big story to give her career some juice, and Pita's pursuer-MCT, the mega-hude computer firm - has hired the heavy hand of the Yakuza drime organization as muscle, things heat up pretty fast. Moreover, the entity that MCT's mage foolishly summoned is very, very old, and unlike any power on earth. It has infiltrated the telecommunications matrix with devilish cunning - and unless Pita can thwart it with her newly acquired magical powers, Seattle's throat will be wide open for the cutting... Something weird is going on in Seattle. Of course, that's hardly unusual in the Awakened World. But this time, it is really unique. Seems a spirit is loose in the world. A spirit that can actually enter the Matrix, the network of computer systems that runs damn near everything. Spirits should not be able to do that, but this one does. And it's killing people. The book tracks a young ork, a witness to one of the spirit's murders, and a reporter who is trying to get the story on the thing. In the meantime, we learn a bit about how the Matrix and magic don't mix, and why, as well as seeing the city from the perspective of someone who is not already established as a shadowrunner of any sort. The characters, for the most part, seem real, and the backstory of the spirit is reasonable enough. Not much contrivance along with a nice little investigation makes a pretty good story.
