Georgios Bakos was a major in the Imperial Army during the Galactic Civil War, before defecting to the New Republic in 6 ABY; having been taken prisoner during the Liberation of Coruscant. Bakos was recruited as a colonel into the New Republic Army, which was in need of reform. Initially given command of the 42nd Republican Guard Assault Division, he was promoted to general after the 42nd proved to be one of the most combat ready units in the New Republic. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Bakos led the 42nd on the front lines from the first days of the war, being stationed in the Outer Rim Territories. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Bakos led the 42nd on the front lines from the first days of the war, being stationed in the Outer Rim Territories. As a result, the 42nd was among the most hardened and decorated divisions in the New Republic Army. He took part in several successful (and unsuccessful) operations during the war, including both of the battles of Coruscant. After the conflict ended, he was appointed army chief of staff of the new Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. However, he did not view the Galactic Alliance to be the official successor of the New Republic, as he deemed it to be corrupt and bureaucratic compared to the previous government. As a result, Bakos resigned from his post and left the Army in 32 ABY. Bakos returned to his home world, Kalist III, and married his lover, a local noble named Elene Rallis.
