While using it, a box of text (similar to the ones in the fourth generation games) appears on the bottom of the scene, which states, "Take that! Triple Finish!" (phrase the Pokémon Trainer also screams), and later "It's super effective!". It should be noted that the second message only pops up if the attack causes damage to opponents; if it misses, the first message will remain for the duration of the attack.

  • A Final Smash attack is an attack each character uses upon picking up a Smash Ball, a sphere with the Super Smash Bros. logo on it. Each Final Smash can be used by a character only once per match. Several Final Smashes have appeared in the E3 2006 trailer as well as on the website.
  • Final Smashes appear outside of the Super Smash Bros. series proper in Umbrella Waffle, where it represents some sort of karmic buildup tied to the player's violence and does not reset between matches. A Final Smash can only be used once the Smash Meter has been filled, though a Smash Ball will fill this meter instantly. While all sentient beings in the game have Smash Meters, a meter will only fill if a real or CPU player is controlling them and makes them attack another being.

They had even recorded the voices that would be used in the attacks. However, like many things, it was taken out, probably for limits on the Nintendo 64's hardware.

  • While Final Smashes tend to be unique among characters, there are certain categories they can be sorted into. * Directional - These Final Smashes launch an attack in a single direction, which may or may not be controlled. This kind of Final Smash has a blind spot, usually behind the attacker, where targets can hide. * Final Form - These Final Smashes involve the character transforming, temporarily gaining a new, stronger moveset that can quickly KO opponents. The transformations usually buff up the character's existing moveset, but can sometimes give them different attacks. * Focused - These Final Smashes affect nearby opponents in any direction. Targets can avoid the move by getting out of range, so they're most effective in smaller stages. * Trapping - These Final Smashes a

Each Final Smash is unique to each character, or at least in most cases, save the Landmaster shared by Fox, Falco, and Wolf, as an example. A transformation is the most typical of final smashes, being one of the most common in Brawl and very unoriginal, generally just making the character have more damage/knockback/invulnerability for a set period of seconds. MYMers prefer to use Final Smashes to bring the mechanic or play style of a moveset together, an excellent example being the Final Smash of Snorlax. Bowser's Final Smash: Giga Bowser A flash of light occurs over Bowser and he turns into Giga Bowser from Super Smash Bros. Melee. Giga Bowser takes no knockback from hits, having constant superarmor, but still takes damage as normal. Foes will still be hard pressed to damage Giga Bowser however, as due to his new massive size (Around three times that of his regular size), Giga Bowser can hit foes from just about anywhere, and you certainly don't want to be hit due to Giga Bowser's massively enhanced damage and knockback. Lasts about 15 seconds. Moves to use with this move to actually hit your enemies with include your up special, dsmash, and usmash.

Some Final Smashes temporarily slow down stage elements, such as platform movement or motion within the background.

They generally have a small initial range, and will fail if there are no targets caught. * Semi-Final Form - These Final Smashes involve a character transforming, but they cannot be controlled to the extent of a regular final form. Typically, they have a moveset consisting of 1-3 attacks. * Transformation - These Final Smashes involve a character transforming, similar to the Final Form and Semi-Final form, but they have a completely different form of control than that of a regular character. * Stage-Wide - These Final Smashes affect a large area, usually covering the whole stage. However, they may be less effective on larger stages.

A Pity Final Smash occurs when a player is KO'd and is 5 points behind compared to the current leader (thereby allowing the player in 2nd place to earn one, provided the gap is large enough.) This player respawns with the ability to perform a Final Smash. This Final Smash cannot be dropped by the player. Pity Final Smashes can be disabled only by turning Final Smashes off completely. Setting their frequency to 'None' alone will not be enough. It was revealed in an interview with Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata, that Masahiro Sakurai had intended for Final Smashes to be included in the original Super Smash Bros., and claims that he has proof, in that there were recorded voices for when characters used their Final Smash. The idea, however, was held off until Brawl.
