  • Rob Thomas is an American rock singer and songwriter. He performs solo and is also known as the lead singer of Matchbox 20. One of his biggest hits was Smooth in 1999, he won multiple Grammy awards for co-writing and singing with Carlos Santana on the Album "Supernatural". In 2004, Rob Thomas won his first Starlight Award. He was recognized as a young songwriter that has had a lasting influence in the music industry. A significant success for Rob Thomas was in January 2007 when "Little Wonders", written in 2005 by Thomas, was released as soundtrack for the Disney animated movie "Meet the Robinsons". It reached number 11 of the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. Rob Thomas is known for working with artists like Tom Petty, Willie Nelson and Mick Jagger.
  • Thomas was born in Sunnyside, Washington. He graduated from San Marcos High School in 1983 and went to Texas Christian University on a football scholarship. He eventually graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987 with a BA in History. Before he began writing novels for young adults, Thomas taught high-school journalism at John Marshall High School in San Antonio, Texas, and advised the University of Texas at Austin student magazine. From August 1993 to June 1995 he worked for Channel One News, an experience which informed his 1998 novel Satellite Down. Thomas was a member of three San Marcos, Texas bands — Public Bulletin, Hey Zeus, and Black Irish — from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s.
