The British Army forces were from the 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, a well trained, operationally hardened Light Role Infantry Battalion. Corporal Stephen Bolger, of the Special Forces Support Group, and Lance Corporal Nigel Moffett, of the Light Dragoons were killed by a roadside bomb during the operation.
