Caber toss was an ancient sport originating on Earth in Scotland. It involved throwing a large pole called a caber in a field. In 2370, a game of caber toss was planned at the Caldos colony on Caldos. However, due to a malfunction in the planet's weather control system, rain began to fall on the colony. While visiting the USS Enterprise-D, Governor Maturin urged Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge to repair it as soon as possible, so the caber toss would not be ruined by the weather anomaly. (TNG: "Sub Rosa" )

  • A Caber toss is a traditional Scottish sport in which participants toss a caber, or a large wooden pole. Participants are judged mainly on how the caber lands after being tossed. (Short story: "Terra Tonight"). The game was popular on Caldos II, a world terraformed to resemble the Scottish Highlands. When the weather control grid on Caldos II was apparently malfunctioning, Governor Maturin did not want it to rain at the time as the colony had a caber toss scheduled. (TNG episode: "Sub Rosa").
