Ptolemy II (1 September 22 AD - 16 December 75 AD) was the fourth member of the Argead-Ptolemaic dynasty of Diadochia. He succeeded his father Germanicus in 61 AD and reigned until he died from poisoning. The death of his father caused rioting by the people who refused to accept that his father had died; eventually they subsided and placed Ptolemy II on the throne. Ptolemy II proved to be an able and efficient administrator and ruled the empire well until his wife Cleopatra Alexandra the Younger (who was also his younger sister) poisoned him so that her son by a previous marriage could succeed to the throne.

He was great-grandson of Ptolemy I, through his mother Cleopatra Alexandra the Elder, who was herself the granddaughter of Ptolemy I; while his father Germanicus was the great-nephew of the first Ptolemy, his parents Herakles Philadelphus and Cleopatra Antonia being the brother and niece of the very same Ptolemy.
