When the Sovereign Galactic Empire reclaimed Iloh during their war with the New Republic, it was obvious to many Ilohians that the neutral stance they'd been thankful for during the Rebellion would not continue. The once beautiful home that he'd seen flourish as a child, had become a garrison world drained of it's valuable resources. Seeing the unrest and devastation left in the wake of the Imperial's arrival, Gaen and his brother, Fias, joined the Iloh resistance group, fighting against local Imperial forces before fleeing with their parents off world to New Republic territory. Background

  • When the Sovereign Galactic Empire reclaimed Iloh during their war with the New Republic, it was obvious to many Ilohians that the neutral stance they'd been thankful for during the Rebellion would not continue. Arriving on Telos IV, the recruitment drive for skilled individuals to fight in the larger war against the Empire attracted Gaen's attention and ignited his desire to sign up as a fighter pilot with the New Republic's forces. Background Born on the tropical outer rim world, Iloh Gaen grew up with his parents and brother in Nihll, a small town situated within the popular tourist region on the planet's southern continent. They owned and operated a sightseeing business where tourists could take trips onboard their small fleet of vessels and explore the tropical reefs or swim with local wildlife. As political unrest spread throughout the galaxy during the war between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire, Iloh's neutral stance saw the family business thrive as many species fled the tensions gripping their own planets in favor of somewhere more peaceful. By the time of the Empire's defeat above Endor, Gaen had already taken over the running of the family business and whilst his brother Fias revelled in his reputation as the town's best guide, Gaen's passion lay with the upkeep and piloting of the sub-nautical ships that had been engineered exclusively for the planet's dense and habitable oceans. During the establishment of the New Republic, peace continued on Iloh and Gaen took this opportunity to become intimately familiar with the rest of his planet, both above and below sea level. There was nothing more that he could ask from life, certainly not a desire to leave his home world. That came when the Imperial remnant reclaimed Iloh and established a base of operations for their fleet in the capitol. With the planet's valuable resources harvested for various military uses, pollution began to kill off the wildlife that the oceans were famous for. Forced to sell their vehicles and other assets to the Empire, at a time when violence and corruption began to see the deaths of thousands, Gaen and Fias both joined a local resistance group formed to stand against the Empire's tyranny. Using their knowledge in designing and constructing amphibious vehicles, both brothers offered their services to the resistance, helping them to create land and air vehicles designed to defend their towns and cities. With guerrilla warfare spreading through towns and cities across the planet, the Illohian resistance grew to be a significant force against the Imperials and the tide of war began to turn in their favor. Knowing that Iloh was crucial territory, the Imperials resorted to biochemical warfare - deliberately poisoning the oceans that resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of Ilohians. Mass genocide was a tactic employed by the Empire before and saw the resistance crushed. With barely enough survivors left to mount a counter attack, those that did survive began to flee the planet including Gaen, Fias and their parents, who sold the family business and made the decision to seek refuge and protection from the New Republic.Family Like most native Ilohians, Gaen's family lived within a social pod consisting of twelve families. Their pod shared an amphibious module located on the eastern coast of the Ileen ocean, a tropical area that was famous for it's sub nautical excursions. As an amphibious species, the ability to harvest and utilize both land and sea resources had established Iloh as one of the wealthiest planets in the Outer Rim and within a few generations, employment and work was no longer a necessity. This helped establish Iloh's reputation as a place of leisure and as a tourist hotspot.
