One of the Annals told the story of Queen Boudicca of the Iceni, who led a revolt against the Roman rulers of Britannia before being suppressed by Gaius Suetonius Paulinus. In 1597, William Shakespeare purchased an English translation of the Annals from Harry Seymour to use as a source in his writing of Boudicca. On 4 January 1598, Christopher Marlowe presented Shakespeare with a much finer copy of the Annals, in the original Latin.
