The real question should be something like: How many of the characters fathers are absent in their lives for some reason or another? Hurley, Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Daniel, Miles, John, Walt, Aaron, Alex, Boone, Shannon, Juliet, Ben, Ethan, Jin, Sun, Sayid and I am sure I am missing more. In the case with all of these characters, their fathers were either absent, dead, bad or something happened with them and their fathers that caused a weird or uncomfortable relationship.
