Annad stays behind in Rin with Jiller when Rowan travels up the Mountain with the six adult Rinfolk. As she is only five-years-old, she does not seem to be fully aware of the seriousness of the village's plight, and the reality of what will happen if the stream is not restored soon. She breaks into tears at hearing that if the stream stays dry Star and the rest of the bukshah will die, for she loves Star.
