Diagnosis A Diagnosis says what is likely to be wrong. Generally considered to be an art, diagnosis involves matching symptoms and ruling out differential diagnoses. In some locations, a diagnosis is a working hypothesis, as most insurance requires a diagnosis and will pay for some treatments, but not others based on a diagnosis. As opposed to Prognosis, which describes how the future is likely to be, such as recovery.
