The capitol of Rheinland, New Berlin is an icy world where night and day last a standard year, with the dark side plunged into a hellish freezing winter and bright side a more temperate summer where temperatures hover above the freezing point. New Berlin orbits a White Giant, a small cold star, so very little solar heat reaches the cold world. However, the Rheinland colonists have found other ways to survive on this unforgiving planet. First, the planet has large active geothermal currents beneath the crust. Next, most of the planetside facilities were built underground to preserve heat.
