BIONICLE: Heroes of Mata Nui was the first RPG for BIONICLE . It was developed by Imaginix, and was planned to be released through ATOMco. The game allowed the player to collect party members as they journeyed the island of Mata Nui. They Matoran are also able to gain experience to enhance their capability on the playing field. Those experience points could be used to upgrade the Matoran to different levels within six abilities (worker, storyteller, sailor/driver/aviator, librarian, guard, and engineer) through improving the attributes associated with those abilities.
