The planet Sergyar's rich ecosystem included a collection of six-legged creatures called hexapeds. * Some were moderately large grazers that traveled in herds on the plains. These were preyed upon by "fuzzy crabs". * Others basked in the sun on sandbars of rivers, rather reminiscent of crocodiles. These were coffee-and-cream in color, low-slung and thick-limbed; Aral Vorkosigan speculated that they were amphibious. Their equivalent of blood was red in color. * Yet a third type was reddish and similar in role to a gazelle (delicately formed, traveled in graceful bounds over the plain; approximately as big as a mid-range dog). This type was edible.
