The 2001 Budweiser Shootout was a Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup) exhibition race for the 2000 pole winners run on February 11 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Tony Stewart started 7th and led 36 of 70 laps, winning his first Shootout over Dale Earnhardt. This edition of the Shootout featured several major changes. First, the format was once again changed. The race was increased from 25 laps to 70 laps, and one two-tire green flag pit stop was required. Additionally, caution laps would count, but the race had to finish under green, with the Craftsman Truck Series' green-white-checkered rule applying if necessary. The name of the event was also changed slightly, with the name being lenghtened from "Bud Shootout" to "Budweiser Shootout." Eligibilty was altered as wel
