The Ötztal is a 65 km long alpine valley in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The Ötztaler Ache river flows through the valley in northern direction. The Ötztal separates the Stubai Alps in the east from the Ötztal Alps in the west. The northern exit of the valley is at the confluence of Ötztaler Ache and Inn, 8 km east of Imst and 50 km west of Innsbruck. In the south the border with Italy is formed by the main chain of the Alps, with many high peaks (Weißkugel, Similaun) and glaciers.
