The dream stave is a long stick, or branch. Mages use them as a means of interpreting the future. One simply winds a lock of hair from the person concerned, puts it under their sleeping-sack, and falls asleep. In the Mage's dreams, the question will be answered. A dream stave is constructed from a rowan bough, stained with blackberry juice and wrapped in a lattice of reeds. Smaller versions can be made. Rowan sends Mages into an enchanted sleep. Blackberry juice is dark as night, and provides a gateway to dreams.
