He started his pro career with the Saskatoon Crescents of the Western Canada Hockey League in 1925-26 and, when that league folded, switched to the Saskatoon Sheiks of the Prairie Hockey League. In 1928 Moffat started a four year stay with the Tulsa Oilers of the American Hockey Association. The Detroit Red Wings signed him as a free agent in 1932. For three years Moffat split his time between the Red Wings and their farm team the Detroit Olympics. He got into 37 games and scored a goal and an assist. He was traded ot the minor league Windsor Bulldogs in 1935.
