Turchin gained fame serving with the 5634th Interceptor Squadron in the northern theatre of operations during Operation Titanic, the Eurofed counteroffensive launched from Sweden near the end of the war. Turchin and his flight's Su-60 interceptors flew more than 100 intercept missions during the first three days of the counteroffensive, driving enemy strikes planes from the sky and allowing Russian Ground Forces to halt the attack.
