Joseph Aaron Turner was a Marine Sergeant and a war veteran who had recently joined the Waverly University and had found the college campus to be something of an overwhelming experience or according to his C.O Marine Captain Daniel Lemay, there was a fair amount of culture shock on Turner's part. Turner's body was found by a drunk college student, Fredrick Pippin which had the local authorities calling in NCIS to investigate the crime.
