The roots of Waterloo Fire Rescue can be traced back to 1857, when the newly incorporated Village of Waterloo passed a by-law calling for the establishment of "engine" and "hook and ladder" companies. Over the years, it transitioned from horse-drawn fire engines to a modern fleet, and from volunteer firefighters to a full team of professional firefighters after the Second World War.
