Esher was a township in Surrey, located southwest of London on the wooded area above the River Mole. To the south of the town, between Esher and Oxshott stretched a large wooded health. Mr Aloysius García lived near the village, in a rented house called Wisteria Lodge. His murder brought Sherlock Holmes and John Watson to Esher, where they stayed at the Bull Inn. The town was located within the jurisdiction of Inspector Baynes of the Surrey Constabulary, who investigated the case simultaneously with Holmes. de:Esher
