The heavy phaser cannon was a weapon designed by Starfleet to be used on large ships such as the Galaxy-class and Sovereign-class ships for heavy combat when normal phaser arrays are insufficiently powerful. This weapon is located on the bottom of a starship's saucer section. Phaser cannons work on the same principles as phasers used by Starfleet personal except on a far larger scale.
