The Triarius was a position in the Roman army. This was an infantry soldier in a Legion who was heavily-armed. The position was usually given to a soldier with experience. He would use the Gladius and Scutum, the same armaments as the Hastatus and the Princeps, with the exception of the pilus, which was replaced with a long spear. Triarius is Latin for third liner.
