Usage stats on Why does Premiere Pro not recognize my audio card

Make sure that the default sound playback device is not some virtual sound device like Total Recorder or RealPlay (Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio tab). Premiere Pro requires that there be either a DirectSound compatible device or an ASIO compatible device. If PPro can't find an audio card it's because you've got something funky selected as the default audio device in Windows. This question was asked on the wiki: Adobe Premiere Pro.
