Guaymas was Confederacy's only port on the Pacific Ocean. Consequently, it was one of the country's most important ports. The United States attempted to take Guaymas throughout the Second Great War, but never succeeded. They were able to the keep the port relatively boxed in by taking nearby Cabo San Lucas in Baja California and launching attacks from there. At the end of the war, the US Army occupied all Confederate States with the hope of someday integrating them into the victorious nation. Even though Sonora, Chihuahua, and Cuba had never been part of the US, and at least one idle speculator suggested making the former two a part of the Empire of Mexico once again, these three states were nevertheless occupied by the US along with all the others.
