Jack Livesey was one of the contestants in a “Mastermind”-style contest entitled Superbrain organised in the Rovers by Annie Walker. At Hilda Ogden’s prompting, most of the lights were switched off to create a pool of light in which Annie and the contestants sat, mimicking the style of the television programme. When Jack came to the general knowledge round, the questions proved to be too hard for him, not knowing who the second man on the moon was or the name of Ulysses’ wife (he gave the answer “Mrs Ulysses”). The overall winner, with seventeen points from answering questions on Manchester United (and wearing a hat and scarf of the team’s colours) was Stan Ogden.
