Donovan D. Dragon (ドノバンD。ドラゴン, Donoban D. Doragon) is a Scientist who is in search for power to take revenge on Admiral Akainu who long ago destroyed the Donovan's home island. He is an older brother to a famous criminal Tyson D. Dragon and they are also the last successors of the famous Dragon Clan. Unlike his little brother Donovan didn't do so many serious crimes, but he did a few crimes which brought him quite a bounty. The World Government gave him epithet him Black Dragon (黒龍 Kokuryū?) because of his ability to control black flames.
