Parylak was born in upstate New York and graduated from New York City's Pace University with a BFA in Theater. After working as an actress and lighting designer for theatrical productions in Manhattan, she joined the Atlantic Theater Company's two-year acting program. Around this time she made her feature film debut in a drama called Chaos Theory and also appeared in an episode of the NBC series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
