Outpost 22 was a Starfleet facility along the Romulan Neutral Zone In January of 2380, an antiquated Romulan Shirekral-class vessel carrying a complement of twenty-nine Remans was detected heading from the Miridian system in Romulan territory for Outpost 22 at low warp. On arrival at Outpost 22 in March, the Reman's leader, Jianuk, requested political asylum from the base CO, Commander Heidi Bowles. This sparked a diplomatic crisis, as the Remans were legally under the protection of Klingon Empire. The asylum request was eventually revealed as a ruse, and the Remans attempted to destroy the outpost. They were stopped and destroyed, though not before three members of Bowles' crew were killed.
