After 7 years of VGMusic Contests run by Ed Bellis and two more by th3l3fty, l3fty handed off hosting duties to azuarc for year 10. Azuarc introduced some noteworthy changes to the contest in the name of vitalizing the tournament, including a radically different nomination process and halving the field to 128 tracks. Whether these efforts were successful, or the contest thrived in spite of them, overall voter count did surpass that of the previous year, even if it was a far cry from the numbers VGMC had enjoyed in its past.
