During the second phase of the Second Great War, General Horace Warfield established his base of operations on the plateau, from which the forces under his command could establish their control over the planet. Broodmother Zagara tried to attack his base by bringing her brood through the trench. However, Warfield deployed Gorgon-class battlecruisers that strafed the zerg over and over, decimating them. Their bodies were left piled up in the trench itself.
