CHAMPAGNE, Claire Siobhan, was born on November 20, 1969, in Paradise, NL, to Clément Champagne and Margaret Elizabeth (née Mercer). Her father operated a ferry boat between Miquelon and Fortune, NL, where he met her mother. As a result, Claire is holds dual citizenship from both Canada and France. Claire ran and narrowly won her seat in the May 2000 by-election to replace Charles Power, and significantly widened her margin of victory later in later that year in the November general election.
