The Orange Revolution sparked a lot of political action in Eastern Europe, with disassociation from Russia being the primary issue; it must be remembered that the CIS is dominated by Russia – many want full independence while just as many want the restoration of the Soviet Union. The clash between Viktor Yushchenko and Viktor Yanukovych in 2004, and then in 2006, aggravated by corruption led to the disintergration of Ukraine into West Ukraine, led by Yushchenko (capital – Odessa), and East Ukraine (capital – Kharkiv), led by Yanukovych in late 2006 divided along the line of the Dnieper.
